Jazz Samba
Jazz Samba play instrumental Jazz
and Bossa Nova music, with a focus on the melodic sound of
the saxophone.
The band began performing as a Trio in 1995, exploring
the gentle rhythmic style of Bossa Nova, playing tunes originally
recorded in the 50's and 60's by artists such as Joao and Astrud
Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Stan Getz. We combine
this repertoire with well loved jazz standards, playing a
set which balances elements of swing, latin beats, improvisation
and remarkable musicianship.
The
band line-up is very flexible, and we perform as a duo,
trio, quartet or quintet - depending on the
type of event we are playing for. The duo or trio
will blend into the background at more intimate events such
as a dinner or a drinks reception, while the larger bands
are more suited to bigger events and dances.
Named after the Stan Getz/Charlie Byrd album, Jazz
Samba have recorded for the BBC, played for festivals,
functions and weddings in the North of England, and have performed
at jazz venues as far apart as Scotland and Italy
